Scope of Project:

This test project was designed to acquire drilled shaft design parameters for the turnpike’s replacement structure over the Susquehanna River. Two (2) seventy-two inch diameter shafts were installed on the eastern shore of the Susquehanna River near the Bethlehem Steel facility. The shafts were socketed into the sandstone and/or siltstone underlying the fill and alluvial deposits. Instrumentation placed in each of the shafts consisted of a series of tell tales, strain gages and Osterberg Cells.
