Scope of Project:
Brayman Construction performed the drilling, installation and grouting of 57 each high capacity dam anchors necessary to stabilize the Loch Raven Dam. The reservoir serves as the primary source of water for the city of Baltimore making the environmental issues on the project paramount. Stringent water tightness testing and alignment checks were made after the initial drilling. 12” diameter drilling was completed for each rock anchor. Where necessary, consolidation grouting and re-drilling was performed to provide a watertight borehole.
The next step was the installation of the corrugation into the borehole and grout the annulus zone between the corrugation and the borehole. The grouting of the annulus had to be performed in stages to avoid collapsing of the corrugation. Once the corrugation was grouted in place, the tendons were inserted into the hole and grouted. When the grout attained the required strength, the anchor was tested and locked off to the appropriate lock-off load. At various locations, long term lift-off tests were performed to record any load loss over time. The anchors on this project ranged from 23 to 58 strands. |
