Black Rock Locks Wall Rehabilitation

Location: Buffalo, NY
Owner: US Army Corp of Engineers
General Contractor: Luedtke Engineering Co.
Value: $646,250
Date Complete: September 2002

Scope of Project:

Working from barges, Brayman drilled, installed and stressed 50 each rock anchors as part of the rehabilitation of the lock wall at the Black Rock Locks. Each 8-strand and 12-strand anchor required the installation of 7-inch diameter permanent steel casing from the top of the hole to the top of the bedrock.

Stringent quality assurance procedures required by the Corp of Engineers included water tightness testing and alignment checks for each rock anchor. Consolidation grouting and re-drilling were performed at rock anchor locations that failed the water tightness criteria.

The project was completed ahead of schedule.
