Location: Forsyth County, NC Owner: NC DOT General Contractor: R.E. Burns Value: $165,000 Date Complete: April 2006
Scope of Project:
This project was the first micropile project for the North Carolina DOT. Brayman performed the necessary design, installation and testing for the micropiles at the three existing bents requiring additional scour protection. The micropiles were drilled from the top of the causeway elevation below the bridge deck. There was an approximate 10 ft. elevation difference from the drill elevation to the top of cap elevation. The pile caps were cored at the micropile locations and the micropiles were installed using rotary percussive duplex drilling methods. A total of 24 micropiles were installed for a total length of 530 feet. There was one sacrificial compression test performed prior to production pile installation and three proof tests on production piles performed inside the coffer cells.
