Location: Somerset, PA
Owner: Pennsylvania Turpike Commission
General Contractor: Trunbull Corporation
Value: $530,000
Date Complete: August 2003

Scope of Project:

Brayman Construction provided a design/build temporary excavation support system for seven (7) locations and for multiple phases of the project along the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Major items of work consisted of drilling and installing 30-inch diameter soldier piles and inclined and horizontal post-tensioned tieback anchors.

Horizontal anchor applications were used at three locations to successfully support the existing roadway during the construction. Coring and rotary percussive drilling techniques were utilized to bisect heavily reinforced concrete abutment walls. The existing abutment walls were used as deadmen to provide the necessary resistance for the tierods. All the work was completed on time and on schedule.
